Welcome! My name is Tim and in spring 2017 I’m moving to Central Asia. I’ve created this blog in the run up to the move so that you can keep up to date with my preparations, and so that I can also share what I learn about the culture and the people of this fascinating part of the world that I’m moving to.
I’ve been planning to move to Central Asia for the past five years, and for the past four have been working with a charity in South Wales that also works in that part of the world. I’m finishing my work in Wales at the end of March, and then plan to spend some time in Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, before moving to Almaty, Kazakhstan in June 2017.
My hope is that this blog will give you a glimpse of what life is like in Central Asia, give pointers on how to adapt to the local culture and also highlight some of the places to explore in this beautiful region. I’m planning to write a weekly blog, and hopefully, if I stick to it, a quarterly vlog from Almaty, or wherever else I end up going.
I can speak a good level of Russian, and hope to learn Kazakh over the course of my time in Almaty. For now, I bid you farewell, до свидания and Сау болыңыз!
